NICU Nurses Donate Mega Million Winnings To College In Need

Some NICU nurses in Missouri got lucky in their office pool and won a large amount of money. So they decided to use their winnings to benefit other in their selfless spirit. Even though the big winner was in South Carolina, they were five $10,000 winning tickets from where the group of 12 nurses purchased at Mercy Children’s Hospital, St. Louis.

Stephanie Brinkman narrated how the group was closed to winning $1.billion even when they thought they wouldn’t win a dime in a million years. Among the group members, the majority agreed to give it all to co-workers, family members and those who are in desperate need of help.

Alternatively, the group would have to split up $7,200 (after tax amount) among the 12 nurses, and that would result in each getting $56 only. So the group decided that it was the best decision to use the lump sum to make a bigger impact.

Mercy Children’s Hospital announced on Twitter that they had the most incredible nurses after revealing the decision to give all the winnings to two recipients who were dealing with terrible circumstances. They were Nurse Gretchen Post and neonatologist Casey Orellana.

Jack, who was Post 17-year old son committed suicide on the night the mega winnings was announced. “I’m grateful, it will pay for Jack’s funeral,” said Post.

The other colleague Orellana was also going through tough times as her husband, Phil was diagnosed with sarcoma cancer. So she was forced to work only half her regular working hours so she could care for her husband and their two kids.

“I was just wondering how to go about paying for most medications, and on that day, I heard about the lottery winnings,” she said.
