When it comes to joining something as big as the British Royal Family, it’s little surprise how much pomp and grandeur goes with it. So, when TV actress and all-around good apple Meghan Markle married into the Royal Family, via Prince Harry, the questions were out.
The Full Story
The abuse was rife. Frankly, the racism was horrifying at times: you don’t need to look too closely to see where the motivation for some of the worst comments about Meghan Markle came from. However, according to those who know her best, she’s not changed a bit since she joined the Windsors.
That’s according to Priyanka Chopra, a top actress who has known Markle well for some time. With a shocking media portrayal that has more than a whiff of dog whistle racism about it, it’s nice to see other standing up for what appears to be a very personable, likable individual.
Having met her back in 2016, Chopra has become a close friend and they’ve become pretty tight as far as we can make out. However, the fact they are both successful actresses probably helps with that. Quickly, they can become good mates and it’s just as well: defenders of Markle in the press are a lot quieter than they should be. Chopra, though, came out swinging in defense of her pal.
When speaking to Harper’s Bazaar about her friend’s marriage to Harry, she was asked a few pointed questions about where the issues with Markle and the British press stemmed from. And she was not shy about telling everyone about why she thought it was: pure racism.
She also says that despite a slew of tabloid stories demanding that she change, Markle has remained true to who she really is: the “same chick” who Chopra met back in 2016.
She also noted, though, that Markle isn’t one for getting flustered by the critics, and has some pretty tough skin. That’s a good thing: now part of one of the most-watched families in the world, Meghan Markle might need to get used to the rest of the world talking about her as if they know her. Luckily, the ones who know her believe she’s as good a person as they come.
