Time to take that vintage t-shirt out of your closet! A pop-up exhibition that celebrates Batman’s 80th anniversary is coming to SDCC – AT &T’s ‘The Batman Experience’.
The biggest collection of Batman-related costumes, vehicles, and set-props is coming to the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC). In celebration of the dark knight’s 80th anniversary, AT&T and DC comics have created an interactive pop-up exhibition to delight the fans.
The immersive experience promises to take fans deep into Batman’s crime-fighting world with a custom-built virtual reality (VR) environment.
Don’t have an SDCC badge? No worries, you don’t need one! The exhibition will be open to the public at the Comic-Con Museum in Balboa Park, California, from Thursday, July 18 to Sunday, July 21.
“There isn’t a single fictional character that has endured and influenced pop culture like Batman has and this exhibition is a fitting tribute to that,” said DC Publisher Dan DiDio. “You get to experience Batman’s 80 years across every medium, from comic books to television to film and video games.”
The Batman Experience Powered by AT&T brings the Batman universe to life with hundreds of rare props from the movies and TV shows.
You’ll be able to see large scale items, like the Batmobile and Michael Keaton’s Batsuit from the 1989 Tim Burton’s film, as well as a car-of-the-future developed by “Wayne Technology” simulating what the real future could be like with autonomous cars and a 5G network.
More than just Bat-Stuff
At The Batman Experience Powered by AT&T you’ll see more than just cool Batman memorabilia and art.
The fun pop-up features several attractions, like The Dark Knight Dive, a VR skydiving experience that takes players on a bird’s eye trip of Gotham City, the Batcave, a gaming lounge featuring Batman video and arcade games, such as Batman The Brave And The Bold and LEGO Batman 3, and The Rogue Gallery Rumble.
There’s also an interactive punching bag experience that uses lights and 3D projection-mapping to trigger iconic animations and sounds while you punch your favorite villain.
Gotham City will come to life with special guest appearances at The Gathering, a special ceremony that will induct Batman into the Comic-Con Museum Character Hall of Fame on Wednesday, July 17, at 5 p.m. PDT.
This will be the first time a comic book character is awarded this honor. The carpet, of course, will be black.
