Jennifer Lawrence is one of the most talked-about and beloved stars of today, and it’s no surprise. With her down-to-earth personality, incredible acting skills and gorgeous complexion, Lawrence seems to have it all and appeal to all. She’s yours, your grandmothers, your friends’ dogs and your boyfriends’ favorite actress and there’s no shortage of reasons why. But there are some interesting and rather quirky things you definitely didn’t know about this A-list star that will surprise you- Check it out!
1. She started off as a (very unsuccessful) model
That’s right ladies and gents, Lawrence made quite the attempt to break into the modeling world before starting off her acting career. On ‘The Graham Norton Show’, she discussed the rather embarrassing ordeal she went through, trying and getting rejected for a gig with Abercrombie and Fitch when Abercrombie created a football-themed shoot.
“They wanted natural pictures, so they made us play football on the beach,” she explained, “The other models played football in a pretty way but not me! My face was bright red, and I was sweaty with flaring nostrils. One of the girls even yelled, ‘Get her away from me!’”
Despite this, Lawrence was convinced she nailed the shoot, (there’s the confidence we love) but her photos never appeared on the campaign!
2. She’s a horse girl at heart
If you didn’t need another reason to love her, Lawrence is also a horse girl! In fact, she grew up on a horse farm in Louisville, Kentucky, where she learned to ride wild horses. She explained to Letterman why she perfected taming wild stallions: “My parents were cheap, so they never bought trained horses,” no wonder Lawrence seems to have tougher skin than her Hollywood companions.
Lawrence’s love for horses even extends to film! In ‘Winter Bones’, Jennifer plays an impoverished teen who is clearly pained at giving away the family horse when they can no longer afford to feed it.
3. She almost refused The Hunger Games role
Believe it or not, Lawrence almost said no to her biggest role to date- Katniss Everdeen. That’s right, when Lawrence was offered a role on the bestselling novel turned movie ‘The Hunger Games’, she almost passed on it!
“Just saying yes to this one thing could completely change my life, and I don’t know if it’s going to be for the better,” she said in 2012
But why did she nearly pass on this amazing opportunity? Not because she didn’t like the script, in fact, Lawrence was a huge fan of the books and loved that character, rather it was due to her crippling anxiety at taking on such a huge role.
4. She battled with severe anxiety growing up
While these days, Jennifer Lawrence is basically everyone’s hilarious, awkward, excitable spirit animal, it turns out the award-winning actress had to work very hard to get to her current peace of mind. Lawrence has opened up about how she suffered from social anxiety growing up and how she overcame it many times throughout her career.
When asks what her childhood was like in a magazine interview, the actress spoke candidly:
“I was hyperactive, curious about everything. When my mother told me about my childhood, she always told me there was like a light in me, a spark that inspired me constantly. When I entered school, the light went out. We never knew what it was, a kind of social anxiety. But I had friends,” Lawrence said, according to Us Weekly. “I went to see a shrink … Nothing worked.
However, something eventually did help, and that was when Lawrence found the place she belonged. Lo and behold, after begging her parents to take her to a casting, her mother saw the actress’s anxieties totally disappear on stage.
5. She Has a Tattoo That Makes No Sense
Jennifer Lawrence got her first tattoo not because she necessarily desired to, or felt something was so inspiring she had to have it inked on her forever, rather it was a result of a pact that she made with her Hunger Games co-stars Liam Harmsworth and Josh Hutcherson.
The story just goes downhill from there- Lawrence was the only one who landed up following through with the pact since the other two chickened out, and unsurprisingly- she regrets it! So what exactly did the star get? She had the ‘H20’ water symbol etched on her hand, because, well… quoting her “It’s just to remind me to drink more water,”. But yes, it gets better.
Even the tattoo she went for was etched incorrectly! The 2 in the symbol was inked in the wrong spot, above the letters rather than below, and now she has a scientifically invalid hand tattoo to live with forever.
