Proving herself a real-life ‘Wonder Woman’, Gal Gadot has taken the world by storm. Actress, singer, martial artist and model, Gadot is the epitome of a strong and positive woman role model. Her performance as the superhero ‘Wonder Woman’ wowed audiences and since then, she has only proved that she is as incredible off-screen as she is on! But what don’t you know about the stunning actress?
1. She partly thanks Beyoncé for earning her role in ‘Wonder Woman’
Before the auditions for ‘Wonder Woman,’ Gadot was told to wait in her trailer till she was called for the camera test. She explains how waiting made her totally anxious and she was convinced she was going to mess up. So, of course, she turned on ‘Who runs the world? Girls!’ by Beyoncé.
This, she claimed, gave her all the confidence she needed!
“I just started to dance, and I let my anxiety go. Thank you, Beyoncé!”
2. She was nearly a Bond girl
During her studies at university, Gadot was approached by a casting director who wanted her to audition for the part of Bond girl in the “Quantum of Solace”. Initially Gadot was not so interested since she believed she was too serious for the world of acting, but eventually, she did audition for the role. Although she did not get that part, the same casting director later hired her for ‘The Fast &Furious’- the rest, as they say, is history.
3. She was crowned Miss Israel in 2004
Born and raised in Israel, the 32-year-old actress won the Miss Israel competition back in 2004 when she was only 18! She went on to join the Miss Universe pageant in Ecuador but had no real interest in winning. She later told Jimmy Kimmel in an interview that she made it a mission for herself not to win the pageant claiming, “I’m not that type of girl”.
4. She served in the Israel Defense Forces
For those of you who think this brunette beauty is too fragile to play the warrior princess, think again- Gadot is just as bad-ass in real life. Not long after being crowned Miss Israel, Gadot served for two years in the Israel Defense Force as a combat trainer.
Speaking about her experience, she said “You give two or three years, and it’s not about you. You give your freedom away. You learn discipline and respect,”
Gadot even did her own stunts in her performance in ‘The Fast and the Furious’. If that’s not a real-life superheroine, I don’t know what is.
5. She is a lover of all religions, races, and colors
It was a heartbreaking thing to hear that in some places, like Lebanon, the authorities banned the showing of ‘Wonder Woman’ due to Godot’s Israeli identity. But Gadot is proud of her heavy Israeli accent and her Jewish ancestry. Her grandfather was a Holocaust survivor who lost all his family in the second world war and was a figure of importance during Godot’s lifetime
‘“My grandpa taught me there is no wrong religion. No wrong color. And no wrong race. I was taught to love all people for what their heart is,” she wrote.
If only we could all take in the lessons of such tolerance and wisdom!
