What seemed to be a normal day for most mothers was an awful twenty four hours for one woman, Alexis Fretz. At just twenty-three weeks pregnant, she had felt something was very off with her unborn baby son, and immediately sought out fast help for her problem. Her baby boy was then born, but his life was short lived at eleven days, leaving the family with a bittersweet and devastating time to have with their son. The story behind what they did to embrace their time from there is more than inspiring.
In order to embrace the time they had with their son, Alexis and her husband had decided to do a photoshoot and keep the memories of his life in their hearts forever. This was truly brave as the baby did look very graphically tiny and bloody. (which is why we will post a link at the bottom for those who want to see the photos) The pictures were taken out of pure vulnerability and love for their child, no matter how premature and hardly living he was.
“I cried the first time I looked at them. I still cry sometimes. They are beautiful and he is beautiful. In some of them, you can see he is wide awake with his big beautiful eyes. It’s something we will definitely cherish.”
What we can take from this story is that even in times of devestation and tragedy, we have to keep moving and make the most of it that we can. The two most touching and inspirational parts are that Alexis’son was not supposed to live, but he did for eleven days and they also took a photoshoot to embrace his memory. At this point we can only hope that the family has recovered since and will continue to heal their hearts speedily!
