The voice behind ‘I Kissed a Girl’, ‘Firework’, ‘Teenage Dream’ and a million other songs you just can’t get out of your head, Katy Perry is definitely a force to be reckoned with. The singing sensation dominates the music world while being the definition of a trendsetter and holding the record for highest number of twitter followers (around 73 million in case you were wondering). Although recently she has been dragged down by feuds with fellow singer Taylor Swift and other questionable choices, she continues to be front and center in the music world. But there is always more about this colorful haired singer to learn:
She once picketed at Marilyn Manson and Madonna concerts
You heard right, Perry was raised by her parents who are both evangelical Christian pastors and had an incredibly religious upbringing. Her religion heavily influenced her in all aspects of life- including music. At Manson’s concert in Santa Barbra, a young Perry handed out pamphlets titled ‘How to Find God’ before she ultimately joined the audience with her pastor to enjoy the music. Seems music would always win Perry’s affections!
Perry is not her real last name
I know, you feel like your whole world is a lie, but there is a reason for this name change! Katy’s real last name is in fact, Hudson, but in order not to be confused with fellow Celeb Kate Hudson, she changed her last name to Perry, which is her mother’s maiden name. And let’s be honest, we are all glad for the name change. I mean how could Katy be anything but Katy Perry?
Her music career was inspired by Queen
Perry has always cited Queen’s ‘Killer Queen’ as the song that made her want to pursue a career in pop music. She claims that the very first time she heard the song her ‘world froze’. It had such a big impact on her that in 2013, she named her third fragrance Killer Queen too pay homage to the song that made her determined to rach the point she has today.
She has a tattoo for each of her albums
Perry’s identity is very much linked to the music she is creating at that time. From the feline vibe of “Roar” to the bright and girly “California Gurls” one thing she knows how to do is change it up. What you may not know, is that with her changing images for each of her albums, comes a tattoo! Yup, Perry is a fan of getting inked to commemorate her successful albums, a strawberry for “One of The Boys”, a peppermint for “Teenage Dream” and a rainbow for “Prism”- she is basically a living work of art!
She’s a high school dropout
Yet another successful person proving that completing high school is not the only key to success, Perry dropped out of her high school at the tender age of 15. However, this decision was not because she hated school and flunked out, rather she knew she wanted to pursue a music career and was determined to start asap. She ended up signing her first record deal at 16 so it seems for Perry, her high risk equaled high reward!
